A check dam is a small semi-open dam constructed across a drainage ditch, swale, channel, or river.
There are many classes that can fulfil large scope of functions and requirements. To determine this, several things should be considered such as: debris characteristics, potential solid transport, sediment and water discharges and volumes, return period, historical analysis, and budget.
