CASE STUDY: YANGON, MYANMAR

The enchanting city of Yangon experiences water-related problems that are often overlooked yet urgently need to be addressed. Yangon is facing these challenges due to rapid urbanization and industrialization, thus needing stronger support to sustain growth for the growing population in the city. The role of youth becomes crucial to ensure sustainable development and growth in the area. Therefore, the Asia Raincraft: Yangon 2024 Edition aims to empower youth by providing them with an innovative and engaging platform to learn about water and climate related issues through Minecraft.

Through a series of interactive workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions, the project educates young participants about the importance of water and climate issues, water in urban setting, water-centric design, green infrastructure, and community engagement in creating resilient and environmentally sustainable Yangon.

Beginning with a needs assessment, we tailor the curriculum to the interests and learning preferences of participants, integrating key concepts of water issues in urban setting and green infrastructure. Through facilitated learning sessions and collaborative building exercises, participants apply these principles within the Minecraft environment, fostering teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Reflection sessions allow for feedback and continuous improvement, while a culminating project showcase celebrates participants’ achievements. Beyond the workshops, we provide opportunities for ongoing engagement and support to ensure sustained interest and impact in promoting sustainability in communities.
