Returning to Pekalongan: First Site Visit in 2025 and After the Project Approval

Following the exciting news of the Pekalongan Green Batik Pilot Project’s official approval under the Partners for Water subsidy, our team kicked off 2025 with a meaningful first site visit to Pekalongan, our ‘home’ for the next two years.

The main goal of the visit was to reconnect with the Pekalongan’s batik communities and batik actors who have been collaborating with us since 2022. These are the local heroes who continue to inspire innovation and resilience in the face of growing environmental pressures. We were happy to see their continued commitment and enthusiasm as we begin this new chapter of the project.

We also reached out and visited some potential workshops as our Batik Champions, producers who are eager to join the movement toward more sustainable and circular water practices. Their interest and willingness to collaborate are strong signs of the growing momentum in the batik community.

To end the site visit agenda, we arranged a meeting with the local government to share the good news of the project’s approval. These conversations were not only celebratory but also strategic, focused on aligning our 2-year implementation plan with local needs and regulations. With their support and input, we’re confident that this project will create long-term impact, both environmentally and socially.

This visit marks the beginning of a new phase—from concept to execution—and strengthens our belief that real change happens when innovation meets local ownership.
