The Salt Lab Youth Challenge 2024 is a part of the Mekong Salt Lab project in the Tra Vinh province, Vietnam. This initiative focuses on creating a dynamic learning experience for students within the Vietnam Association of Community Colleges (VACC) network, including Tra Vinh University, Soc Trang Community College, Kien Giang Community College, and Ca Mau Community College.
Primary Objectives
The primary objectives of the Salt Lab Youth Challenge 2024 are twofold:
- Raising Awareness: It aims to increase awareness among Mekong youth about the challenges posed by climate change.
- Practical Initiatives: The program introduces practical initiatives that local farmers and residents can implement to adapt to salinity intrusion. These initiatives address issues such as reduced crop and fish yields, freshwater scarcity for irrigation and household use, and the socio-economic consequences of salinity.
The Mekong Salt Lab employs various strategies, including hydroponics, freshwater collection and retention, water and wastewater treatment, constructed wetlands, a salinity data farming platform and app, a youth water challenge, and a salinity blended learning program. These interventions enhance resilience and promote sustainable agriculture in the Mekong Delta.
