Deltares

Deltares is an independent research institute specializing in water, subsurface, and infrastructure. They focus on innovative solutions for vulnerable areas like deltas and collaborate globally with governments and organizations. In Asia, particularly in Vietnam, they’ve undertaken projects such as land subsidence research, freshwater availability assessment in the Mekong Delta, and support for weather forecasting systems. They also excel in serious gaming initiatives related to water and climate issues, including the “Sustainable Delta Game” and the “Port of the Future Game.”

Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED), Vietnam National University

The Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED), a public science and technology research unit under Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), specializes in circular economy technologies, innovation, and policies. Collaborating with various stakeholders, including governments, businesses, and academia, ICED addresses complex issues in Vietnam and globally, focusing on developing high-value business models.

Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment (HUNRE)

The Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment (HUNRE), under Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), specializes in water resources education and research. The Faculty of Water Resources trains students in Integrated Water Resources Management. They’ve conducted significant research projects, including spatial planning for areas like Phu Quoc Island – Con Dao and assessment of salt intrusion vulnerability for coastal aquifers in Central Vietnam. Faculty members also contribute to advising MONRE on legal documents and major water-related projects such as amending the Water Resources Law and developing the National Water Resources Master Plan, n, Red – Thai Binh River basin planning, Cuu Long River basin planning etc.

Wageningen University & Research (WUR)

Wageningen University in the Netherlands focuses on utilizing nature’s potential to improve life quality. They merge specialized research institutes and fields of natural and social sciences to swiftly turn scientific discoveries into practical solutions and education. The Department of Environmental Sciences, part of WUR, specializes in nature-based solutions for global environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and water quality. In initiatives like Deltas under Pressure project, they collaborate to enhance the resilience of areas like the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Their Coastal-Deltaic Land Subsidence Group leads research on land subsidence, especially related to groundwater extraction in the Mekong delta, employing cutting-edge insights in delta subsidence research.
